Since I live in a “surge” zone in Jackson County, MS, during Hurricane Isaac I was carefully monitoring the Surge Prediction function for the storm at noaa.gov. It was updated frequently, gave precise information at useful resolution, and in the end was spot-on accurate for my site. I will definitely use this in future storms.

This is really interesting, Wes. After the initial publicity I never heard anything more about those berms. I hope someone is learning from this expensive experience.

Maybe just learning that most of these things turn out to be temporary? I wish some of these types of efforts could last (don’t we all?), but reality so often has other plans.
