The community of Immokalee FL will serve as pilot community in Florida to participate in the National ReadyCommunity project. A community team of extension faculty, county staff and local leaders has volunteered to be trained and serve as pilot test for Florida. FEMA has a new public policy model to address the question of resiliency and response to disasters. In their “Whole Community Approach,” they want to involve all elements of the community in planning, preparation and post-disaster recovery efforts. Future goal of this program is to move this program to other communities in Florida.
Thanks for letting us know about the pilot. Very interested in learning about how FEMA fosters initial and ongoing involvement. Would be a great presentation topic for a future Resilience Team meeting….
