    Dear Coastal Adaptation leaders,

    Are you working with communities in the Gulf Coast that could use guidance and assistance transitioning from adaptation & resilience planning conversations into action planning and implementation? If so, please help circulate the announcement for the Gulf Coast Resilient Communities program. Please note: applications are due February 20th.

    This is a FREE 8-month program, led by the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC), that will assist a group of 10-12 communities from the coast of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Northwest Florida to help develop and/or advance implementation of community resilience plans and initiatives. The program consists of the following activities:

    · Two Peer-Learning Workshops (one on April 15 – 17, 2013 in New Orleans, LA, and one in the Fall of 2013—location & date TBD). The first workshop will provide an opportunity for community teams to share their resilience plans with peers across the region. At the end of the first workshop, each team will develop an eight-month action plan to implement new tools, strategies and approaches learned at the workshop and accelerate and improve existing practices. The second workshop will reconvene the teams to share lessons learned from implementation activities. Each of these two and a half-day workshops will provide a blend of interactive panel discussions and small-group working sessions focused on key challenges, such as:
    o Prioritizing risks and setting priorities for action;
    o “Making the case” for resilience planning and communicating hazards and risks to diverse audiences;
    o Collaborating with key partners at the local, regional, state and federal levels;
    o Monitoring, evaluation and adaptive management of resilience strategies; and
    o Making best use of planning tools such as the Coastal Resilience Index:A Community Self Assessment and the Center for Planning Excellence’s Best Practices Manual for Development in Coastal Louisiana.

    · Direct Technical Assistance (summer and fall of 2013). ISC will select a subset of communities who attended the first workshop to support the implementation of their resilience action plans. Where possible, ISC will provide targeted assistance, such as facilitating meetings within community teams, connecting teams to local experts, organizing exchanges between communities across the region, providing strategic guidance on performance measurement or drafting policies and program materials. The specific suite of services will be determined based on consultation with selected teams.

    If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact me or my colleague Mike Crowley (mcrowley@iscvt.org or 802-225-2943) anytime.

    Many thanks,

    Nathaly Agosto Filion

    This is an 8-month program that includes two workshops as well as direct
