Here’s another webinar opportunity! OCM’s next quarterly delivery of the Using Flood Exposure Maps webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, November 30 at 1:00 EST.
NEWS: Participants who are AICP members can now obtain 1 Certification Maintenance (CM) credit!!
Here are some key points:
It’s in a blended webinar format — participants view Part 1 online at their convenience and at their pace (takes about an hour if they view the entire thing), and then join us for Part 2 – a live, online session on September 1 (also about an hour).
Our target audience includes planners, emergency managers, city officials, community activists, those with coastal commercial and industry interests — anyone interested in creating flood exposure maps using NOAA’s Coastal Flood Exposure Mapper (that’s what Part 1 is all about), and/or who wants to use those maps to engage stakeholders (the focus of Part 2).
Kyle Spencer, our guest speaker, is the GIS Team Supervisor, City of Norfolk, Department of Communications and Technology. He is involved with several projects dealing with coastal issues. He is focused on sharing information that is meaningful to people, so they can make informed decisions.
Participants can do Part 1 of the webinar or Part 2, or BOTH:
Part 1 in NOT a pre-requisite for Part 2…if someone already knows how to use the Mapper, or gets their flood maps from another source, they are welcome to attend Part 2 only.
And if someone is only interested in creating maps and not necessarily in using them to engage members of the community, they can participate in Part 1 only.

We will continue to offer this webinar once a quarter.
