A place for any conversations related to the Deep Horizon Oil Spill of 2010. Find a new website? An article? Please share it here so others can keep up on what’s happening in your area (extra-credit for local news).
A new survey (N=933) by my LSU sociology colleagues of the effect of the oil spill on coastal residents of Louisiana. (Coastal zip codes: 2/3 of respondents have family in both oil & fisheries.) Results show high stress & worry, and high attachment to community.
Just an informal poll, but how many people in this group have put their SLR and climate change activities on hold due to the oil spill? I’ve redirected at least half of my shop’s efforts to oil spill activities, and it looks like it will remain that way for many months – if not longer – to come.
Feels to me like everything SLR, CC, or hurricane-related that wasn’t already in motion before the spill has (temporarily, I hope) stalled while we all focus on the more visible oil problems. Which makes me desperately hope that all the predictions that this is going to be an active hurricane season are wrong.
Thanks for sharing Roy! This is a great resource. I have already used the fact sheet from LSG and will share this with others are well. I am getting a lot of seafood safety questions-as you might expect!
